The Casino building is a real centre of urban culture. It is located in the Central Park "Simion Bărnuţiu" and has become a real center of cultural and artistic events taking place in Cluj.
The building is a historic monument, being built at the end of the 19th century, in an eclectic Viennese style. At the base of the construction of this real palace were the plans of architect Pakey Lajos, who designed the renowned Continental Hotel and other historic buildings in Cluj.
Over time, the building served as a casino, an ethnographic museum (interwar period), a fine arts school (1925), and a restaurant. Following the rehabilitations made by the Cluj-Napoca City Hall from European non-reimbursable funds, the Casino now organizes cultural and artistic events and activities, the mission of this place being to create cultural dynamics specific to the other big university cities in the world.
We would like to thank Cluj-Napoca City Hall for the support for this event.

About the RSA

The Regional Studies Association works with its international membership to facilitate the highest standards of theoretical development, empirical analysis and policy debate of issues at this sub-national scale, incorporating both the urban and rural and different conceptions of space such as city-regions and interstitial spaces. We are, for example, interested in issues of economic development and growth, conceptions of territory and its governance and in thorny problems of equity and injustice.
